Transcript:
On July 22, 2008, Ana Espana, a Board member of Deaf Community Services of
San Diego, Inc. (DCS), was sworn in as a San Diego Superior Court judge.
Judge Espana, who represented Deaf children in the foster care system for
many years, was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The judge's
family, colleagues, and Deaf supporters attended the swearing-in ceremony.
The judge, who resigned from the DCS Board to devote herself to her new
duties, hopes to create a Deaf Court within the judicial system where cases
involving Deaf children and families will be referred to her.
Footage of Judge Espana taking the oath of office was filmed by Amy Sierra,
DCS's Director of Business Development. We congratulate the judge on her
appointment and wish her well as she takes the lead in her own courtroom.
